ESG Overview

Our purpose is to harness, while protecting, nature’s resources for the betterment of the world and its habitants by creating ethical, sustainable, better-for-you beverages and consumer products that not only uplift our communities, but that do right by our planet.

Our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework is an articulation of this purpose and addresses key opportunities that are closely aligned with our business.

For us, advancing projects in sustainability and social responsibility goes well beyond what we do but also understanding the effect it creates in our communities. That means measuring our impact in a quantifiable way—something we’ve coined as our return on impact.

We have created a three pillar approach to addressing these opportunities for all stakeholders.

Strategic Pillars

Our products come from nature, which is why we need to work together to ensure that we give back more than what we take.

As a business, we are focusing on the impact of our environmental footprint at each point of our value chain from seedling to sip. We have identified our key environmental opportunities in order to protect our natural resources, including:

  • Supporting sustainable and regenerative agricultural practices,
  • Reducing energy consumption and our climate footprint,
  • Conserving and replenishing the water we use in our operations process, and
  • Creating responsible packaging while reducing waste.

Over the past year, we have invested in measuring the carbon impact of our product lifecycle, optimization projects to reduce our energy consumption across our operations, and the exploration of our product portfolio’s recyclability.

Since our founding, we have developed a symbiotic relationship with our global suppliers. We have become invaluable to each other, and we take this responsibility very seriously.

That’s why we created The Vita Coco Project® based on a simple philosophy of “Give, Grow and Guide,” with the goal to build thriving communities and create positive change in the lives of over one million people in our suppliers communities.

We attempt to impact key factors that address quality of life and health outcomes including economic stability, education access through the building of classrooms, and awarding of academic scholarships.

In addition, we work closely with our partners to distribute premium coconut seedlings and create agricultural training programs, which in turn helps to reduce our environmental footprint and improve the economic performance for the farmers.

Our business was built on the premise of making better-for-you products more accessible to consumers. That means building a portfolio that champions inclusive health and wellness.

We focus on addressing nutrition and food insecurity, physical well-being, and mental and emotional wellness as we believe these areas can have a material outcome to a community’s overall health.

Through our partnerships with non-profit organizations, we support initiatives, including ones that:

  • Increase access to meals and resources for those experiencing food insecurity,
  • Expose young adults and children to life learning experiences, and
  • Provide support and access to physical and mental health resources.

Our ambition is to ensure that our products contribute to the overall health of society.
